About On The Edge Beach Missions

We plan to have four teams at motor camps at these beaches: Tirohanga, Shelly Beach, Thornton Beach, and Orere Point.

  • Travel Day: Fri, 27 Dec 2024
  • Programming days: Sat, 28 Dec 2024 - Thu, 2 Jan 2025
  • Pack up and Leave: Fri, 3 Jan 2025

Tirohanga has a particular role in training. In general, newcomers to Mission will join the team at Tirohanga. After a year or two, we expect people to move on to a new mission or to help with another mission.

We will be running morning Children’s Programmes, some afternoon beach activities, some family evening programmes, and drop-in cafés – with slightly different emphases and activities at each location.

The teams are made up of people from different church fellowship groups – and different parts of the country! Ideally, we would like to take 15 adults (14-year-olds and older) to Tirohanga, 8-10 to Orere Point, and 6 to 8 experienced adults to Shelly Beach and Thornton Beach.

We need people from young teens to older Grandparent types. We need people who are confident leading a programme, leading singing, running games, and taking part in dramas.

AND we need people who can help with cooking, setting up games equipment, clearing away again, sitting with children, and helping with craft activities.

We need team members who are followers of Jesus; committed to obeying the Lord in their daily lives. Beach Mission is frontline stuff in the Christian battle. Of course, none of us are perfect, but unless you can honestly say you are seriously seeking to submit to the Lord in every area of your life - joining a Beach Mission team is probably not wise. Feel free to discuss this with us, in confidence, if you are not sure.

We like families at Mission. Families add stability and a family feel to a team. However, we can only take a limited number of families.

Beach Mission is great fun – it will stretch your faith – it is also hard work! You will make some new friends. It is a holiday with a difference!

Each adult team member is expected to contribute from $225 to $250 (TBC) towards expenses, which includes food (we eat together), team uniform items, consumables for the programmes, accommodation costs charged by the camp management, transport costs, hire of gear - marquees, sporting gear, lights, etc. Costs for families will be on a case-by-case basis.
